This house is located in villa area where is the foot of Yatsugatake at a height of 1,700m above sea level.
The lot, where gradually sloped toward east-southeast, is surrounded with white birches and bamboo bush. Therefore it’s seemed like thick even though in villa area.
The house is composed of some cubes which is piled up and shifted along the slope to the depths of the mountain. Each cube having original functions are designed to fit its characteristic as the entrance, a sanitary room as well as a living, dining and kitchen rooms integrated in an open floor plan. The entrance which is a closed place brings out how large this integrated space is because of the difference of the height. This design leads sequentially visitors’ attention to the depths, to the living and adjacent rooms with a 4m ceiling height. What all visitors see is only nature from there.
To make use of the good nature environment and to provide enough equipment needed to withstand the severe environment at heights make that possible to use this house throughout the year. This design leads the scenery of seasons such as fresh green even snow-covered landscape to the house’s social area.
